Bits & Pieces

Eric Whitacre\’s Virtual Choir – \’Lux Aurumque\’

Now this is a genius idea. Write a piece of music for voice and post sheet music of the alto, soprano, tenor and bass parts. Then have singers download the part they want to sing, record their part, and send in the audio files. The result? 243 tracks of over 180 vocalists singing one gorgeous piece of music called “Lux Aurumque.” You can read “the making of” this great example of crowdsourcing here.

This is amazing. Thanks for recognizing it Nick. Total chill bumps. The last line of his description in the “making of” post pinpoints the emotion of it for me, “…people singing alone, together.” Also, I’m sensitive to the background of every singer – literally, the background of their videos – Venetian blinds, red curtains, staircase spindles, couch cushions, etc. For whatever reason that adds so much to the experience. If he would have told them to all record in front of a white wall – ugh, what a miss that wouldn’ve been! This is just beautiful.

That’s insanely cool. Wish I thought of it.
